11 minors allegedly raped in Chhattisgarh, NHRC sends notice to state
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to Chief Secretary and DGP, Chhattisgarh calling for reports within four weeks on the allegations of gang-rape of eleven minor tribal girls in the state. Allegedly, these girls were sexually exploited by their teacher and a chowkidar at a Government Hostel in Kankar.

THE COMMISSION has directed them to inform it about the steps taken for providing medical care to the victims as well as the steps taken for the protection of inmates of the hostel. The incident has come into light on January 7th 2013 when media reported it. West Bengal based NGO Manab had also complained to NHRC about the unfortunate incident that took place in the government hostel.

Manab has demanded that the concerned authority in the state should be directed to provide immediate required medical care to the victim girls.

“We have demanded from NHRC to direct the concerned authority to provide immediate required medical care to the victim girls as well as reimbursement of the medical expenditure incurred, if any, for their treatment and also sufficient protection to them as well as their family members,” said Amitra Sudan Chakrabortty, Founder, Manab told this citizen journalist .

Manab also demanded that NHRC should send its investigating team to investigate the matter impartially and thereby to take necessary legal actions against erring state actors.
