11-year old dies in drought-hit Maharashtra
Another death has occurred in drought-hit Maharashtra in a week. Earlier a 12-year-old girl had died of heat stroke and dehydration while she was going to fetch water for her family, and now an 11-year-old boy has become the victim of drought.
11-year old Sachin Kengar from Parched district had gone to get water from one of the many deep wells in which water had mostly dried up and pooled at the bottom. While Sachin was trying to draw water, he reportedly slipped into the well. Villagers pulled him out of the well, and tried to revive him, but all in vein.

On Tuesday, a 12-year old girl had died due to heat stroke in Beed district. She made five attempts to fill water from the hand pump, when the day's temperature was soaring at 44 degrees. She had been unwell for days with dysentery, but was forced to go out.

Water shortage in the Marathwada region has meant that every member of the family, even children, are forced to make multiple trips to the nearest water source in blazing heat.

As many as 2,745 water tankers are being used in the region compared to 939 this time last year. The Aurangabad Collector has already announced a 20 per cent water cut to local industrial plants and a 10 per cent overall cut to the local industry.
