12-year-old carer to carry Olympic flame
Along with 700 celebrities and athletes, 7300 people from the UK would be involved in carrying the Olympic flame within the nation. The Olympic torch relay starts from May 19, 2012.

PREPARATIONS FOR the London Olympics 2012, scheduled between 27 June to 12 August are in full swing and the dates along with venue have been announced. It would witness around 8000 torchbearers. Out of which, 700 would be celebrities and athletes. The rest (7300) have been nominated accordingly via a selection process. Most of them would be ordinary people who have some kind of courage and community spirit etc. The torch relay would start from May 19, 2012.

One of the youngest torchbearers for the Olympic torch relay is a young carer, 12 years, Danielle Russell, who would primarily be carrying the Olympic torch on 26 May, 2012 through Treherbert. She lived with her uncle since a very early age. Her uncle has been suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, an inflammatory disease. She has been helping her uncle for the past two years in most of the household chores along with his medication, as per At this age, she has been doing what normal child of her age cannot even think about.

Danny Munden, who likes playing sports by profession, is an officer in the fire service, who is also the captain of the UK fire services volleyball team. He has also raised money for children in need, many a times. It must have been a great gesture by the officials who decided to choose him as one of the torch bearers, as they risk their lives many a times in order to save lives of other persons. He would be running with the Olympic torch through Bitton on 22 May, 2012.

Another such person who loves serving the community is 73-year-old Malcolm Green, who is keen on establishing a community centre for a village. For this project, he has raised around GBP 20,000 so far. He has always taken major steps so as to help people and start other projects too for their development. He would be carrying the flame on 26 May 2012 through Caerphilly.

Sara Pickard, another torchbearer who works as a participation officer has been involved in various activities related to people with disabilities. She speaks on conferences, TV, Radio on topics related to the same. She seems to be a person who is very eager in working towards the development of persons with disabilities. She wants to make a difference in their lives. She is aged 28 and would be carrying the flame on 25 May though Cardiff.

People from different walks of life have been selected for the mega event, which would be watched all over the world. People from different age groups have been selected for the relay. The selected people would also feel proud to be a part of such an international event.
