125,000 ISIS accounts deleted by Twitter
Since 2015 micro-blogging site Twitter has deleted around 125,000 accounts linked to terror organization ISIS. To identify the suspicious accounts Twitter has roped in experts and technology. A special team is also being developed by the Twitter in the US and Ireland for this purpose.

The micro-blogging site in a statement on February 5 condemned the use of its platform to spread terrorism.

"We condemn the use of Twitter to promote violent terrorism. This type of behavior, or any violent threats, is not permitted on our service," said a statement by Twitter.

Deleting suspicious accounts or messages by Twitter is not an easy process. It requires a lot of expertise. According to a report by The Guardian, specialists working with the company make tough calls on individual tweets and accounts.

Such action by Twitter is also not an easy decision to be made because somewhere it affects the soul of the micro-blogging site i.e. a platform for free speech and open debate.

Because of the action taken by Twitter against the accounts operated by ISIS in 2014, its the then chief executive Dick Costolo had also received death threats.

Terrorist organizations around the world are using social media platforms to push their agendas and influence the people, especially the youth, towards their ideology.
