Vishnu Mathur, Secretary General of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), one of the key organisers of the 12 Auto Expo, said, “There have been shuttle services arranged for the people who are interested in visiting the expo. We have started shuttle service from Pragati Maidan to Greater Noida and another one from Botanical Garden in Noida to Greater Noida, which will be helpful to the public to some extent.
Auto Expo has two segments, one is vehicle show and other one is auto component show. When the Auto Expo used to be organised in Delhi's Pragati Maida, both the events would take place at the same venue. However, unlike previous years, this year the Auto Expo venue has been divided into two parts. At Pragati Maidan auto component show is taking place and in Greater Noida vehicle show is being organised.
SIAM justifies this venue division citing the reason of space crunch at Pragati Maidan. Vishnu Mathur said, “Due to the lack of space at Pragati Maidan the venue has been partially shifted from Pragati Maidan to Greater Noida. Still the component exhibits will take place at Pragati Maidan, and only Vehicle exhibition is going to happen in Greater Noida.”
Every year Auto Expo attracts a large number of media, both national and international, business delegations from around the world, dealers, general public. During the last year's show Mahindra Auto's Chairman Anand Mahindra has complained about mismanagement on the part of the organisers. It could also be one reason that has prompted the orgainsers to divide auto show venue in to two parts.
When we spoke to few residents of Noida in a bid to know their views about Auto Expo being organised for the first time in their city, their response was mixed. Some said they were looking forward to visit it, while some were still in wait and watch mode.
“I have planned to visit the Auto Expo, and I think that these type of expos will boost the automobile industry. There used to be parking problem at Pragati Maidan during the earlier auto-expos but since the venue has been now shifted to Greater Noida, let's see what happens there.”
