13 killed in Barcelona terror attack; Sikh Gurudwaras open doors by offering food and shelter
On Thursday, 13 people were killed after a suspected ISIS terrorist drove a van into crowds in the Spanish city of Barcelona. According to authorities, the death toll could rise even further as over a 100 have been injured in the attack.

The attack took place in Las Ramblas, a popular tourist destination in Barcelona. The attackers drove a white coloured van on a sidewalk injuring & killing numerous pedestrians. As per latest reports, the police have claimed killing 5 of the accused with the first suspect being arrested nearly an hour after the attack took place. The driver of the van is yet to be arrested.

Terrorist organisation ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack. A Moroccan-born man who has been identified as Driss Oukabir has been identified by Spanish authorities as the man who had taken the van used in the attack.

As per a report in NY Daily Times, the police shot dead 5 suspects who were wearing explosive belts and mowed down civilians in the seaside town of Cambrils, just hours after the Barcelona attack. While four of them were shot dead, one was injured in the shoot-out and later succumbed to injuries. The explosive belts that the suspects were wearing have been detonated by the police.

Authorities believe that the two attacks, in Barcelona and in Cambrils are linked to each other.

Spain has received support from all over the world and many world leaders have voiced their solidarity with Spain.

"The United States condemns the terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, and will do whatever is necessary to help. Be tough & strong, we love you!" United States of America President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the world to unite in an uncompromising battle against the forces of terror.

The Vatican also issued a statement saying, "The Pope prays for the victims of this attack and wishes to express his closeness to all the Spanish people, especially the wounded and families of the victims."

In the meanwhile, the Sikh community has offered food and shelter for the victims of the Barcelona attack.

Harjinder S Kukreja, a man from Punjab tweeted the details of the Gurudwaras which those in need could approach for food and shelter.



His post has been retweeted more than 4,500 times and has also received over 200 comments. In his tweet, Kukreja provided details of two Gurudwaras of Barcelona.

India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has confirmed that there are no reports about any Indian casualty.
