17 countries to participate in Penta Grand 2013 World Equestrian Tent Pegging Championship
The Penta Grand 2013 World Equestrian Tent Pegging Championship, which kicked off Wednesday at Tau Devi Lal stadium, Gurgaon, would witness participants from all over the world. 'A total of 17 countries would be participating in the championship, which includes India as well,' said Moquidul-Haq, the Marketing Co-ordinator of Equiwings Sports and Events (P) Ltd, who are the organisers of the event. The competition will end on 24 March.

The primary event in the championship is going to be Tent pegging. In this cavalry sport, the horse rider gallops, and tries to pierce the sword into the peg lying on the ground and carry it away. The game traces its roots to the times when modern weapons were not used during fights. “It is the first time that a total of 17 countries are participating in Tent pegging,” Haq informed.

This championship first took place in 2010 in Noida and second edition at Ghaziabad in 2012, which saw the participation of 11 countries in both the editions.

Tent pegging is the main sport in the The Penta Grand 2013 championship. There are various events such as Indian File, Team tent pegging- Lance, Rings and Pegs, Individual Tent Pegging, Team Tent Pegging - Sword, Lemon and Peg, Individual Tent Pegging Lance and Paired Tent Pegging.

The competition is going to be of highest quality with riders from various countries like Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Egypt, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, India, and Oman etc. trying to wave their national flags high by coming up with a splendid performance and win a medal.

In the previous two editions, the competition drew huge crowds and the same is expected this year as well. The price of the tickets ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 5,000 for the initial days and will increase during the final days.
