2-day training workshop on earthquake resistant construction to be organised at Palarnpur
The whole of the Indian subcontinent is susceptible to natural disasters of various kinds. It is said to be world's most disaster-prone area with 55% of the land being vulnerable to earthquakes, 8% to cyclones and 5% to floods.

Natural hazards are a matter of concern to the State of Himachal Pradesh, as every year the State experiences the fury of nature in various forms like earthquakes, landslides, cloud bursts, flash floods, snow avalanches and droughts etc.

Considering the vulnerability of the State towards different natural hazards, the Government of Himachal Pradesh initiated a number of programmes. As part of the mandate of the State Council for Science Technology & Environment, it had undertaken various programmes to sensitize the different organs of the Government on various facets of disaster management.

To give further impetus, a two days training workshop on earthquake resistant construction is being organized at Palarnpur in collaboration with a premier Government of India institution i.e. Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee on February 21-22, 2017.

Divisional Commissioner Kangra, Nandita Gupta, lAS will formally inaugurate the workshop at CSK Palampur in which about 130 participants from different stakeholder departments mainly the Junior Engineers from PWD Department and Junior Engineers and Masons from 32 Development Blocks of Kangra, Una, Chamba and Hamirpur districts in Himachal Pradesh would participate.

Scientists from State Council and CBRI Roorkee in the two days will interact with the participants and sensitize them about the various techniques and will also demonstrate the techniques for earthquake resistant constructions by way of having hands-on exercise in the field about various features like seismic bands and vertical reinforcements etc. in Zone V and IV constructions in Himachal Pradesh.
