2001 KBC tax case: Amitabh Bachchan in legal trouble once again
Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan seems to be in legal trouble once again following the Supreme Court's order to Income Tax department to reopen a '2001 tax case' against him. According to the Income Tax division, the actor owes Rs.1.66 crore in taxes for his famous quiz show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' for the year 2001-2002.
However, the actor's legal team has maintained that the actor ensures the right to appeal against the re-assessment dictation.

"The mentioned case has no relation to KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati) whatsoever in any matter or context. The mentioned case has not been reopened," said the Chartered Accountants and Legal Advisory team of Bachchan in a statement.

There are various reasons given for reopening assessment of his taxes including the number of accounts possessed by the actor. The I-T department's claims that his accounts were not examined and even though the actor ensures 7 bank accounts, he had given particulars of only 6.

The Bombay High Court had given relief to Mr. Bachchan in similar case in July 2012, when it dismissed an appeal filed by the Income Tax Commissioner. Now, the Income Tax department had approached the Supreme Court against the High Court order.
