UPA government has been keen to establish bilateral ties with several states, including United States, Japan and China. Political appreciation and open markets will lead to more dialogues for building up of strategic partnerships with these states. The controversial Indian nuclear program will rev up with US assistance. Domestic politics will be more dramatic as the leading Congress will probably look for the golden card to secure the vote banks. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh may be more assertive and distant from the Gandhi influence. The premier is committed to bring in the social equity, a subtle agenda that will prove fruitful to the party in the coming elections.

 

The social milieu will be fiery, as interest groups will demand stern actions to eradicate the evils from society. In 2006 ‘Farmer Suicides’ and ‘Dalit Rights’ were at the forefront. There have been retractions to several economic policies. The row between big enterprises, which take up the maximum profits and let the grassroots scavenge on the remains, will continue. Special Economic Zones will be prime targets. This will further unite and strengthen the leftists’ tendencies prevailing in the social and political milieu. In general social domain is to witness a lot of action, be it 2007 or the coming years.
