2010 Round-up: Top 10 performances in Indian sports this year
It was a great year for India, as far as sports are concerned. From Commonwealth to Asian Games to cricket, we excelled in all. Here are the the top 10 performances to relish.

THE YEAR 2010 brought about some great sporting moments for the country in a number of sports along with cricket, which is loved by Indian cutting across all lines. Saina Nehwal brought laurels to the country when she won a number of top badminton tournaments beating world's top players, whereas Indian shooters hit the bulls eye repeatedly to win several medals in Asian and Commonwealth Games.  Indian wrestlers and boxers and surprisingly athletes also contributed a lot to make India proud of its sports prowess.

Here is a list of top 10 Sporting Moments of the Year:
 
1.Our very dear and top favourite Sachin Tendulkar never ceases to reach new milestones. He became the first-ever batsman in the world to score 200 runs in an ODI in match against South Africa, played at Gwalior.
 
2.India defeated New Zealand straight out 5-0 in the ODI Series 2010. The young brigade headed by Gautam Gambhir, as the captain, was a difficult lot to defeat and so they proved by bagging the series all out! India also blanked out Australia in the test and ODI series, played at home.
 
3.Somdev Devbarman became the first-ever Indian to win a gold at a men’s singles tennis event at the Asian Games held in Guangzhou, China. He also won the doubles’ Gold in the sport in the same event.
 
4.Gagan Narang, became the most sought after shooting star of the nation by clinching gold medal in 10m Air Rifle(Individual), 10m Air Rifle(Pairs), 50m Rifle(Individual) and 50m Air Rifle(Pairs) in the Commonwealth Games, 2010 hosted by India.
 
5.India managed to pull off the best-ever Asian Games haul, since 1982 Asiad. Our athletes clinched a total of 64 medals comprising 14 gold, 17 silver and 33 bronze. This is the highest number of gold medals won since the first Asian Games held in 1951. India finished sixth in the Asian Games 2010.
 
6.India made it the best Sports Year by winning a total of 101 medals and finishing 2nd in the Commonwealth Games 2010 which were also hosted by India. The most memorable moment was the opening ceremony which virtually put all the viewers in a trance as he watched the rich culture of India unfold in front of their eyes.
 
7.Indian sportsperson proved that there is more to Indian sports arena than just cricket. Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar became the first Indian wrestler to win a world championship title by winning the World Wrestling Championships in Moscow. Even in the CWG his final score was 7-0. He has once again put India on the world map as far as wrestling is concerned.
 
8.Vijender Kumar stunned former Boxing World Champion Abbos Atoey of Uzbekistan, 7-0 in the boxing finals at the Asiad and became a name to reckon in the world of Boxing. After his dismal performance in the CWG he made it up and how by giving an all-out smashing performance in the Asian Games 2010.
 
9. Ashwini Chidananda made women proud and proved that there are more PT Ushas here in India. She clinched an individual gold at the Asian Games in the 400m race and the gold in the 4x400 m relay along with Manjeet Kaur,Mandeep Kaur and Sini Jose.
 
10.Mary Kom, a name not many know, made India a proud country by winning the Fifth Consecutive World Boxing Championship Title 2010 in Barbados by defeating Romanian opponent Duta Seluta.
Mary Kom is special; she is a mother two, five times World Boxing Champion and a name that makes every woman’s heart swell with pride.
