2012 London Olympics: A huge success
There were doubts about the overall success of the London Olympic Games, as they were criticised from several quarters. But, after the Games concluded everyone seems to be happy as it was successful in hosting one of the best Olympic Games.

THE BRITISH Prime Minister, David Cameron was a pleased man after the London Olympics came to a close. In the AFP video, the PM, with a sense of pride in his voice, said, “You only need two words to sum up the Games, 'Britain delivered'. We showed the world what we are made of. We reminded ourselves what we can do.” The period between 27th July to August 2012 when London stood host to the Olympics will be etched in the memories of London Olympics athletes, for the Games they truly delivered, providing the best of the best facilities to teams participating in the event.

The 2012 London Olympic Games concluded with a splendid display of fireworks and performances from musicians during the closing ceremony, which was organised by the authorities. It was a proud moment for LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) responsible for staging the Games, which has been a huge success. The President of the International Olympic committee, Jacques Rogge also considered it to be a great success. The authorities need a pat on their back.

There were some controversies which took place in various sporting events, but the authorities were able to handle them in a mature manner. Surely, when around 200 nations with more than 10,000 athletes participate in 26 sports, some problems would creep in. But luckily, there were no huge problems that one had to encounter - unlike the Euro Cup 2012, another big event which took place this year, which was criticsed for the fights that took place outside the stadiums. At least, there were no such reported cases from the London Games.

The games will also be remembered for the quality of action that was in the offing. Athletes from various nations came up with their best performances. Some of the memorable moments during the Games were Michael Phelp's record of 22 medals, won over three Olympics, his retirement, Oscar Pistorius running with a fiber blade, Usain Bolt's amazing sprint run in the 100 and the 200m.

Along with it, there were a number of records that were broken. Some of them were women’s 4x100m relay with a timing of 40.82 by the US, Chinese Swimmer, Yang Sun broke the record in the 1500m freestyle race, Russian shooter, Alexei Klimov, also improved his record by 1 point, reported Yahoo.

Even before the Olympics started, the authorities were critcised for its expenditure, which was exceeding its limit, especially the expenditure on security, which was criticised the most. Now, the authorities can answer back those critics with their head held high and say that they had done that in the greater interest of the nation's pride. They might as well say that it has thus helped London Olympics being regarded as one of the best Olympic Games ever. Not all will agree with it, but it is a debatable topic.
