2013 being observed as International Year of Statistics

The year 2013 has been designated as the International Year of Statistics. The year also been called the 2013 International Year of Statistics or Statistics2013. It is an initiative of several associations and supported by hundreds of organizations and institutions from all over the world.

The founding organizations of the Statistics2013 are the International Statistical Institute; American Statistical Association; Institute of Mathematical Statistics; International Biometric Society; Bernoulli Society and Royal Statistical Society.

International Statistical Institute (ISI) is one of the main initiators who has asked other similar institutes to register for support for Statistics2013. According to a release by ISI, more than 1,400 organizations in 111 countries have already consented to cooperate in Statistics2013, to enhance public understanding of the power and impact of statistics on all aspects of society and nurture statistics as a profession, especially among young people.

It has been envisaged that throughout the year, millions of people will be reached out to understand the value of statistical science through conferences, seminars, workshops and awareness campaigns through national and international professional societies, universities, schools, businesses, government agencies and research institutes.
