2013 Biggest Political Newsmakers
A number of politicians came to the forefront in 2013 grabbing headlines owing to certain events and developments, not forgetting their impromptu remarks, which further complicated things for them. Lets take a look at such political newsmakers of 2013.

Akhilesh Yadav:

UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav faced a barrage of criticism in the public eye during the Durga Shakti Nagpal case, when the IAS officer was sacked by his government just because she ordered for the demolition of an illegal mosque wall. Tension was revoked for more than two months. Next, the Muzaffarnagar riots in August, where 43 people died and 93 were left injured due to communal clashes between Muslim and Jat community. These were two strong blows to the Akhilesh led SP regime.

Lalu Prasad Yadav:

In September, former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav was sentenced to five years imprisonment and was fined Rs. 25 lakhs for his involvement in further scam, which had erupted 17 years ago. The CBI court gave its verdict against 37 out of the 45 convicts in the scandal. This verdict bashed away Lalu's Lok Sabha membership, thus putting a question mark on country's well known politician.

Arvind Kejriwal:

The Aam Aadmi Party chief remained in the headlines for a considerable length of time. Owing to his unending war against the UPA regime, he has resolved to sweep away corruption from the face of the nation. Kejriwal was on a hunger strike for 15 days, urging the Delhi people not to pay power bill, because they were paying twice the amount that actually had to be payed.

Rahul Gandhi:

Rahul Gandhi who campaigned for his party Congress, for the just concluded Delhi elections was in the eye of the storm, owing to his anti-saffron comments. Rahul observed that the BJP modus operandi is to light the sparks of communal tensions in parts of country such as Gujrat and Muzaffarnagar, and Rahul was rebuked by the election commission, which disapproved the tone and contended the sections of his speeches, reported nnis.

Narendra Modi:

In March 2013, Modi was appointed the member of BJP parliamentary board and chairman of the party's central election campaign committee. He was chosen to head the poll campaign for 2014 parliamentary elections. It was alleged that Modi was attempting to create a Rambo image in the minds of the public. He was criticized for giving preferential treatment to Gujarati's. He was once again surrounded with controversy by his remark during the Chhattisgarh campaign.
