26 infants die at Odisha Shishu Bhavan hospital in 4 days; probe ordered
With the deaths of three more infants on Tuesday the death toll of children at Sardar Vallabhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (SVPPGIP) hospital in Cuttack, Odisha have touched the mark of 26.
Parents of the infants who died on Monday and Tuesday said that it was because of the negligence shown by doctors, nurses and other hospital staffs their children dieds. The hospital, also known as Sishu Bhawan, is the biggest government-run Children hospital in the state. 

Everyday patients from Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh come to this hospital. It reportedly receives around 1000 infants on an average every month.

Speaker of the Odisha State Assembly has asked the government to reply on the Sishu Bhawan infant deaths. Human Rights Commission has also issued notices to the State Health Department, National Health Mission and Director of Sishu Bhawan over the deaths of toddlers. It has sought a detailed report by September 15.

Meanwhile, a two member delegation of the District Child Welfare Committee visited the Hospital on Tuesday to know the cause of the infant deaths in the hospital and had discussions with the Director of the Institute, Dr. Niranjan Mohanty. 

Opposition parties Congress and BJP also sent their delegation as fact finding mission to find out the cause of the infant deaths.
