26/11 : An year later
The memories of 26/11 are still afresh in the minds of people but our elite leadership is busy attending state dinners, giving interviews to TV channels and repeating the same statements they made an year back!
JUST ABOUT two weeks back, Barack Obama rescheduled all his important visit to China to pay homage to the 13 people killed in US Army shoot out. A small gesture to signal to the citizens of America that in the times such as these, their President is with them.

An year after 26/11 attack that rocked the entire country and the world, our Prime Minister issues a statement from US paying homage to the attack that killed more than 200 people and shocked the entire nation. The memories of 26/11 are still afresh in the minds of people but our elite leadership is busy attending state dinners, giving interviews to TV channels and repeating the same statements they made an year back! So much for my country Mr Prime Minister! Even today asking US for help to counter terrorism is more important than actually taking firm steps on own and being with own people when the entire country remembers the martyrs.

Today, someone like me who was dejected and frustrated at the chain of terrorist attacks in the country an year ago feels frustrated even more at the way things have turned out. My own PM is in another country issuing statements instead of being in Mumbai paying respect to the people and brave men who lost their lives. My own President is busy flying Sukhois and creating world records symbolising our way of life that says Who cares! ho gaya ab kya kar sakte hain, steps le rahe hain, chalta hai isse kuch ni hoga, Force one bana di, Mumbai mein police march karegi na!

An year on, our efficient judiciary is still helping Kasab with free food and security that someone estimated has cost India 31 crore. An Year on, Hafiz Sayeed is still out in Pakistan planning another attack. An year on, we still feel threatened, new Headleys and Ranas are coming up. An year on and today, we are back to 25/11/08 mindset. So much of passion was seen in front of the Taj after the attacks.

That passion resulted in people not going to vote and in the same old way criticising the system relaxing in their drawing rooms and not bothering to step out and act. We still cannot thwart a repeat of 26/11. The civil society is back to their own business and nobody bothers about Kodas of today, naxals, corruption and bad governance. Passions will again rise when the next attack happens and unfortunately everything will be back to normal very soon.

Nothing seems to have changed except a few good steps taken by P Chidambram, which like many other things in our country will take years to yield good results. But that’s not enough. Cosmetics won't do.

Today, Washington’s convenience of dates to host a dinner for Manmohan Singh was more important than to observe the first anniversary of 26/11. This makes an average Indian like me feel discouraged and embarrassed. When will that change of attitude come in the leadership of this country? The change is coming but at a very slow pace.

My leaders, small gestures matter a lot to the aam aadmi and a mere statement is not going to heal the wounds! So what if elections are not round the corner, you can still do something for the common man.

I light a candle today with a hope that someday will be our day! It is a hope that yes, the much desired change would come some day. My respects to the people around the world who died in attacks because of the failed policies of their leaders!

Is baar nahin
Is baar jab woh choti si bachchi mere paas apni kharonch le kar aayegi
Main usey phoo phoo kar nahin behlaoonga
Panapney doonga uski tees ko
Is baar nahin

- From Prasoon Joshi’s famous “Is baar nahi” composition after 26/11 attacks.

Thats India not US. We follow everthing thats western but their attitude towards life..Thts the irony.. I too feel the same way..Nice one.
Man What A Thought, While sitting in the Potty when I saw the news headlines, quite similar thoughts crossed my mind specially seeing the incompetency of our government to tackle terrorism. The judicial system is so incompetent that they require more time to convict a person like kasab. And I do not see a point of him keeping him alive for proving the MIGHTY USA that Pak is the culprit. As a common man My sentiments for 26/11 is not suppressed. Its there, very much there but my priorities is again me rather than my country. Once again I would pay my homage to the great martyrs who sacrificed their life only for people like us to be safe.
