For the last two days twenty-nine miners has been trapped in Pike River Coal Mine, New Zealand. This incidence came soon after the successful rescue operations of miners trapped in Chile a few months back.
TWENTY-NINE miners are trapped in Pike River Coal Mine, New Zealand for the past two days. Two days before, there was an explosion inside the mine believed to be caused due to the prevalence of methane and carbon monoxide and other poisonous gas trigged by an electrical fault. This incidence came soon after the successful rescue operations of miners trapped in Chile a few months back.
Rescue operations seem to have begun but the prevalence of poisonous gas has prevented the rescuers from doing their job immediately. Safety devices seem to be place but still the situation is proving to be a guessing issue! At this moment there is no communication with the trapped miners; hopefully they are having some food to survive.
Let us hope and pray that sooner good news is in the offing enabling the trapped miners rescued at the earliest. There should be regular debates conducted on this important issue from safety viewpoint taking all the past incidents into account at various forums.
