3 men die in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar due to toxic gases while cleaning a sewer
In a shocking incident, three labourers have died in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar locality as they inhaled toxic fumes while cleaning a sewer drain. The labourers were not wearing any safety gear.

Of the three, one has been identified as Joginder and another as Annu while the third labourer has not yet been identified. Also, what must be noted is that it is not the first such instance. Less than a month ago, four workers had suffered a similar death in Ghitorni.

As per reports, one man entered the sewer to clean it but fell unconscious as soon as he entered and another labourer jumped in to rescue him and when he did not come out, the third man jumped in and fell unconscious as well.

When the fourth labourer attempted go in, he was forced by the locals to tie a rope along his waist so that they could pull him out in case of an emergency. And later, when he went in, and screamed for help, the locals pulled him out using the rope tied along his waist.

A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the private contractor who was in charge of the work. The contractor has been booked because he failed to provide the labourers protective equipment like gas masks.

The three dead bodies were later removed by fire fighters.

The three were not staff members of the DJB. The DJB has ordered a probe into the tragic incident.
