30 including 27 school children killed in bus accident in Himachal's Kangra district
30 people have reportedly died in a bus accident in Himachal Pradesh. The bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge.

In the accident which took place on Monday in the Nurpur area of Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, of the 30 dead, 27 are children. Of the three others who lost their lives, two were teachers and the third was the bus driver. Twelve other people have been injured in the accident. The injured haven been taken to the hospital but are reported to be in critical condition. While the exact cause of the accident is unknown, it appears to be a case of negligent driving and over-speeding. The government has ordered an inquiry into the accident.

The children, mostly between the age group of 10-12 years and students of Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Memorial Public School, were returning home when the bus skidded off the road and plunged into a 100-feet deep gorge. The local villagers began rescue operations even before officials could reach the spot.

Offering his condolences, the PMO wrote on Twitter, "I am deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. My prayers and solidarity with those who lost their near and dear ones in the accident."

Congress President Rahul Gandhi also offered his condolences. "I am deeply disturbed and saddened by the bus accident in Himachal, that has claimed many lives, including those of 26 children. I urge our Congress party workers in Himachal to provide all the assistance they can, to the families of the victims and to those who are injured," Gandhi wrote.
