'31st October': The first mainstream film on 1984 Sikh riots starring Vir Das and Soha Ali Khan
Although Bollywood is quick in making films on real-life incidents, it never tried its hands on one of the most controversial subjects of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguard and the outburst that took place post the event.

Significantly, although it is one of the most controversial incidents in the Indian history, but fans are yet to see a film on the subject.

Well, the wait is finally over with '31st October' - a film starring Vir Das and Soha Ali Khan in lead roles. '31st October' is the first Bollywood film that deals with the issues that happened after the killing of the former PM Indira Gandhi.

The 1984 riot following the death of Indira Gandh had triggerd huge tension among the Sikh and Hindu communities. The riots are still among one of the darkest events in Indian history.

The film is based on the story of a Sikh family who is trying to escape from the communal violence. Directed by Shivaji Lotan Patil - a National Award-winning director, '31st October' has already been screened at the London Film Festival.
