32 people were killed in a fire that broke out in a district in TN, 90 km away from Chennai. Most of those killed in the cracker shop are charred beyond recognition as per district authorities.
AS THE country celebrated Diwali, a devastating news has brought gloom as the death toll has risen up to 32 due to a fire that broke out at Pallipattu in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on Friday. Pallipattu is about 90km away from Chennai. The fire broke out late at night.
According to official reports, almost forty people were present in the wholesale shop at the time of the fire. The district Collector V Palani Kumar told certain media outlets that three people have been arrested in connection to the fire. This includes the owner of the godown cracker shop.
Amongst the victims were two women as well. Most of the people who died were in the shop to purchase crackers to celebrate the festive occasion. The fire is said to have started around seven in the evening and was doused by two fire tenders. The injured are being treated in the government hospital in Tiruttani.According to District Collector, Palani Kumar, most of the victims were charred beyond recognition. He also stated that as many as27 of the people belonged to the neighbouring Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of fire.
