A DEADLY plane crash in Congo has caused death of 32 out of 33 UN workers and crew members on Monday. According to UN spokesman the plane crashed on Monday as it was landing in the Congo city of Kinshasa. The cause of the crash is not clear yet.
A Congolese aviation official said the plane was travelling from Kisangani to Kinshasa. It is reported that the CRJ-100 jet broke in two and burst into flames as it attempted to land in heavy rain. BBC writes twenty UN workers were listed as being on the plane, which had a Georgian crew and both Congolese and foreign nationals aboard. The nationality of the lone survivor remains unknown.
According to UN peacekeeping mission in New York the craft was a small passenger plane which was ferrying a mix of U.N. personnel, including peacekeepers. Reportedly Congo, the central African nation with deeply impoverished people has one of the worst air safety records in the world.
