5 Cameroon pugilists, 1 swimmer, 1 Soccer player missing from Games Village
A total of seven Cameroon athletes are reportedly missing from the Games Village. Out of which, 5 are pugilists, 1 swimmer and another is a soccer player. Some also speculate that they may seek asylum in Britain.
SEVEN OLYMPIC athletes from Cameroon have suddenly disappeared from the Olympic Games Village, where they were residing. The missing sports persons have been identified as Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Abomo, who are all boxers, reported Sky news. The others are Paul Ekane Edingue, a swimmer and a standby woman goalkeeper (Soccer), Drusille Ngako.
All these Olympians have visas, which allows them to reside in the United Kingdom for 3 more months, until November. So, there are also chances that these athletes may seek asylum in Britain. A total of around 59 athletes had traveled from Cameroon to London for the prestigious Games, out of which 28 had already left for Cameroon and 24 athletes are in London. The remaining seven are the missing athletes, reported The Telegraph.
The reported disappearance is all the more puzzling as the athletes cannot just vanish from the village. It has to be a very well thought out plan, without anyone knowing about it. They seem to have planned it precisely, hence no one has been able to comment about their whereabouts. The authorities have no clue. Among all these athletes, it has been said that the woman goalie was the first of the athletes missing since July 2.
And to rub salt into the wound of the Cameroon Olympic team, the country had a disappointing Games, without a single medal in the medals tally. There was no case of expecting medals from such athletes who had come with such intentions of not returning home with their team.
