IN TWO tragic incidents at least 50 people, including women and children are feared dead after two overloaded boats in which they were travelling capsized in the Bagmati and Kamala Balan rivers in the eastern state of Bihar, reports coming on Tuesday, September 29 said.

An official said, that most of these passengers were returning home after celebrating the Durga Puja. Twenty people drowned and more than 45 to 50 are missing, when a boat sank in the Bagmati river near Fultora ghat in Khagaria last evening. The revellers were returning from a Vijay Dashmi fair.

In a similar mishap, eight people have been confirmed dead, when a boat carrying them capsized in the river in Darbhanga district during the immersion of an idol of Goddess Durga.

Around 15 bodies have been recovered so far and the state government has launched a massive rescue operation. Majority of those drowned included women and children as the strong current washed them away into deep water, eyewitnesses said.
