64th Republic Day celebrated at Doda

The 64th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, fervor and gaiety here at District Headquarter Doda as Minister for Roads and Building, Abdul Majid Wani hoisted the tricolor and took salute of the march past contingents in a grand function held at the Sports Stadium.

While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Wani said, “We should remember the great sacrifices of the freedom fighters, especially Mahatma Gandhi, Abdul Kalam Azad, Subash Chander Bose.” He appreciated the people of Jammu and Kashmir for maintaining communal harmony during the time of turmoil in the state and standing against all odds.

Maintaining that tourism is the backbone of the state’s economy the minister said that unexplored tourism potential of the erstwhile District Doda will get a boost when Doda-Dessa-Kapran road Kishtwar –Sinthan -Vialoo tunnel and Bhaderwah-Bani-Basohli road projects are completed

Underlining the importance of road connectivity for overall development in the state the minister said that besides connectivity there is also a need to give importance to improvement in education sector because education is the main tool for socio-economic development of the society.

He appealed to the people to remain vigilant about the nefarious designs of the anti-social elements of the society who always try to disturb the communal harmony and peace for their vested interests as peace and communal harmony are imperative for the development of the state and the country.

Various march past contingents participated in the parade which included CRPF, JKP, JKAP, FPF, NCC and various school children. A colorful cultural programme in Siraji, Dogri, Bhaderwahi, Kashmiri and other languages was presented by the school children on the occasion, which mesmerized the audience. Later on, the Chief Guest distributed prizes among the participants, on the occasion.

District Administration gave awards to the government employees and school children for their outstanding performances.

Republic Day was also celebrated at Tehsil headquarter Bhaderwah where Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bhaderwah Dr. R.K Bharti hoisted the tricolor and took salute of the march past. A colorful cultural programme by the school children was also presented by the school children on the occasion.
