Seven jail staffers including jail superintendent of Aska sub-jail in Ganjam district of Orissa, have been suspended for negligence after jail DIG's report on killing of one under trial prisoner on August 24 night.

Notably, one undertrial prisoner named Susant Nahak had been beaten to death inside the Aska sub-jail in Ganjam district on Tuesday (August 24) night. Some associates of notorious gangster Bikram Malik had attacked Susant inside the jail. Susant had been shifted toa hospital in a critical condition after the attack, however, he was declared dead in the night.
According to sources, jail DIG Dharani Dhar Das was investigating into the lapse of security inside the jail and had submitted his report.
On Friday (August 27), the state jail authority suspended seven staffers of Aska jail for their negligence. They include jailer cum superintendent Jiban Singh Munda, assistant jailer Ghanshyam Nayak, havildar Jayadev Kanhar and Surya Narayan Patra, three warders; Kartika Behera, Chitaranjan Majhi and Bibhuti Bhusan Das.
Meanwhile, four of the accused - Silu Palei, Manoj Pradhan, Kalia Behera and Subrat Padhi have been shifted from Aska jail to Berhampur circle jail for security reasons after the killing of Nahak. Two other accused persons-Kutuli Nahak and Rabi Nahak are still lodged in Aska sub-jail.
