7.0 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia
An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale rocked the remote eastern Indonesian region of Papua, in the early hours today. A teenager has been reported missing after he fell into a river during the quake, while a few buildings were also damaged.

Papua is located 250km from the provincial capital Jayapura. The US geological survey reported that the epicenter on the quake was 52km, below the ground, in the mountain region of Papua.

Rescuers have still not managed to reach the earthquake hit areas in the district of Memberamo. In Kasonawaje city, which is quite near the epicenter, patients had to be evacuated from a hospital, as the walls developed cracks.

A 15-year old, who fell into a river during the quake is still reported missing. The quake has also left a 50-meter crack on the road.

However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has said that there is no threat of Tsunami in the region due to the quake. Indonesia is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where highly fragile tectonic plates exits, making the region highly earthquake prone. In a massive Tsunami in 2004, more than 1,70,000 people had lost their lives in Indonesia alone.
