73 Govt schools in Manipur have zero pass percentage
The class 10th results of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) has shocked everyone as not a single student in 73 of the 323 government schools was able to pass the exams.

A total of 6,484 students from 323 government schools appeared in the BSEM exams in 2016, but only 2,781 got through, and the total pass percentage was 42.8.

As per the reports, this is not the first time that Manipur schools have got such a bad result. Earlier also they have recorded poor performance. This time situation has worsened even more. In 2013 there were 28 government schools which did not have a single student who could pass the exams. The number rose to 48 in 2014 and 70 in 2015.

Though the rich people are not sending their kids to the government schools, but, the people from modest economic background have no other option then sending their children to these schools. The state government is looking for some effective solution to this problem. It is also planning to close down the non-performing schools.

A highly placed source on the condition of anonymity said, "The government has taken a serious note of the non-performance of the government schools. The only way out is to abolish some of these schools, so that students could get admission in private schools."
