A dress code for parents: does it make sense?
Indians sound to be more culture-oriented. Now some school administrations want that parents should stick to appropriate dress code outside their schools in morning hours. They do not want to see parents dressed in shorts and night suits.

IN INDIA, some prominent schools have been issuing instructions to parents against dressing in night clothes while dropping their kids at schools in the morning. However, in metropolis, parents continue to have pyjama party at the school gates every morning.

Some school principals in Karnataka thought it’s a bad example for parents to be showing up untidily dressed even as children are encouraged to be elegantly dressed. Parents too agree that wearing night clothes outside home particularly during dropping kids in school is not in line with Indian culture. But not all of them think on those lines as there are voices if disagreement as well.

“The life is already on fast lane, it is difficult to change night dress in hectic hours of morning. We service class have to manage other things too before dropping our brood and going to work place,” said Nagesh Tharoor, father of two kids.

“It is right we are living in democratic and moderate India. However, schools have no rights to ask parents to wear appropriately outside their schools. In parents-teachers meeting or any school’s functions, it is proper for parents to come in fine outfit,” said Ankita Mahajan, a school teacher with a prominent school in Secunderabad.

Some schools have decided that issuing circular on the matter may embarrass parents so it is better that staff graciously informs them to avoid such clothes. But the moment they step inside school, the appropriate dress code must be followed as they are representing their child. The proper dress code plays important role not only for school but also sets an example of stylishness for students.

“I do not think polite way is going to work as some people are aggressive and not ready to accept the facts. It is better schools should issue the instruction at the time of admission of their kids. If there is dress code for students in school than there is nothing wrong for parents too,” added Jagriti Singh, School Principal of Little Blooms, Guwahati.

This is going too far. I dont care wht the school authorities think... but I dont think they have a right to tell me what I need to wear when I go to drop my kid in frnt of the school. This is sheer stupidity.

I wonder why we are so concerned about 'decency' all the time? Is it bcoz we have started to know that somewhere we are getting indecent and their needs to be a 'code' or 'law' to bind us to the right path, always?

we are not going for a fashion show or party. we are just going to drop our kids to school. dress coding outside the school, does not make any sense.
