This Baramulla school which has just once classroom for eight classes is the best example depicting how seriously the state government is trying to do away with the tag of being one of the most educationally backward states in the country.
DESPITE TALL claims of the government that crores of rupees are being spent to upgrade the education system in the state, a number of schools are running in unsafe buildings, posing threat to the life of children and teachers. Such a kind of school is running in education zone Chandoosa at Galibal area of district Baramulla.
The school is running in a rented unsafe building. Though this a middle school but there is only one room for more than eight classes. Teachers have now occupied a room in a nearby house and the classwork is carried out in the veranda of the house as well as in the ground near the house. Teachers said that it is very difficult to teach the students here as there are no separate classrooms for different classes.
Though education department started constructing a new building, but after more than four years, just plinth level has been constructed for the reasons best known to the contractor and the officials of the department.
When this citizen journalist asked Zonal Educational Officer, Mohammad Sayeed Khan about the problems faced by the students, he said that they are tryng their best to find an alternate to resolve the problem till new building will be constructed.
