A life skills workbook that helps sex offenders to reform themselves
The booklet in the 'answer journal' format "A life skills course for sex offenders" is an unusual document written in the work-cum-tool kit format.

The purpose of the document is indicated by the motto of the publishers American Community Correction Institute (ACCI) which goes as follows: "If we keep on doing what we have been doing, we will keep on getting what we have been getting, and we will have to change what we have been doing."

The toolkit of 26 pages has been divided into 17 chapters of half to one-and-half page worksheets ending with personal notes. The worksheets are required to be done by the participants in a group-work made. The participants are urged to complete the worksheet thoughtfully and with mental effort.

The authors of the workbook – Sondra Sphelherd, VE Barborka and Mickelle Manwaring – claim that the workbook experience is the beginning of a life-long process by building rest of life on the acquired concepts and skills described in the book.

After going through the workbook available to Disha's library in Jaipur, I found that the worksheet format punctuated with the colorful picture, would be suitable for life-skill trainings.

The authors rightly said, "The evidence of recovery isn't in your words, it is found in your actions." According to the authors, a life-skills workbook exercise completed as a group activity through a skillful trainer can create a real life picture of a participant which is whole, complete and happy.

There are a few social groups, NGOs and community based organizations imparting life-skills training who can draw inspiration from this workbook format to strengthen their work.

In fact, the document sets an example of the right way of imparting life-skills courses so as bring about behavioural and attitudinal changes towards transformation.
