The need for formulating a new NPE has been felt due to the changed global scenario of educational standards, employment and work opportunities.
It’s being said that new NPE will have emphasis on qualitative improvement in education through academic reforms; universal access; and new-age vocational courses. The aim of NPE will be the education for gainful employment and contribution to national productivity, it seems.A national-level conference of vice-chancellors, had recommended a new NPE at the earliest some months ago with a framework of access, equity and quality. The MHRD has already initiated the nation-wide eighth All India School Education Survey to work as the base document for the new education policy. With the HRD ministry giving a facelift t to the existing education structure, emphasis will also be laid on vocational education. The improved vocational education will be at par with that of the international standards and will chart a new way forward for an economically stable nation.
