Rani Luxmi Bai of Jhansi was a great patriot and an able leader of the society. The British who gought battles against her also went into mourning on her Martyrdom.
'THE RANI of Jhansi, Rebel Against Will' ; the title of the book written by Rainer Jerosch is a book that tries the Rani of Jhansi as a great warrior and above all a PATRIOT par excellence. It is rather unfortunate that the author fails to give the credit where it is due. I had been dying to read the present book but could not lay my hands on an authentic one. The pirated edition is also hard to possess as it violates the law of the land.
GALVANIZED THE PEOPLE
In my opinion, the biggest quality of Rani Luxmi Bai of Jhansi is galvanization of the heterogenous people into a homogenous entity. The subjects of Jhansi, a principality ruled by Maharaj Gangadhar Rao belonged to Jhansi but professed different faiths and were, generally speaking not as loyal to the ruler as they should have been. Rani Luxmi Bai accepted this challenge of the time and worked relentlessly for the upliftment and welfare of her people. It was an eye opener to many. The Rani had achieved her aim and won the loyalty of her subjects irrespective of the faith they professed.Indeed Rani Luxmi Bai was the first Leader of the civil society and a military thinker who made Jhansi a Principality to reckon with. She raised and trained a Regiment of Women Warriors who would sacrifice their lives, if need be. She trained the Women's Reserve battalion herself and in the war against the East India Comany led her new-fangled women warriors very well.CHANDI IN BATTLEShe fought ferociously besides providing leadership fighting shoulder to shoulder with the native army of the Company Bahadur. The patriotic soldiers thought that the Deity of the Hindus called Kali was herself waging war to free Bharat Mata. Although the horse was new in battle but Gurudev had blessed it and at this stage there was no going back. She killed many officers anf men of the East India company. At the critical juncture her new horse refused to jump across a Nala and some Britisher gave her the fatal blow. Her female soldier companions kept their promise to the Queen Of Jhansi by cremating the body in a nearby Sadhu's Ashram lest the British touch or mutilate her body.General Sir Hugh Rose, in his despatch to Fort William, praised the bravery of Rani and recorded that she led her Army remarkably well, better than many male generals of her time.Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi lived and died for her country and compatriots. Indian citizens will always remember her as a great Queen who loved her people and sacrificed her life for the cause of freedom of her motherland. We bow in remembrance and pay glowing tributed to her bravery and patriotism.
