A research into the past and present of 'blogs'
This story is about my experience about the term 'blog' during my research work. The term 'weblog' was coined by Jorn Barger on December 17, 1997. The short form,'blog' was coined by Peter Merholz, who humourously broke the word webloe into ?weblog?.
WHENEVER WE discuss cyber tools, we come across the word ’blogging’. During the days when I was totally ignorant about this word I asked some people about it and this is what they had commented:

“A blog is a hierarchy of text, images, media objects and data, arranged chronologically that can be viewed in an HTML browser,” one of my teachers said.

My best friend said, “A blog is a frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and web links.”

“A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is blogging and someone who keeps a blog is a blogger,” said my father.

Thus, I got many definitions of the term ’blog’ but still I was confused. I kept asking, “So, what is a blog?”

One day I decided to do some research on this word in order to get familiar with it. I want to share the information I collected with all of you:

Blog is a contraction term of the word ’weblog’. The term weblog was coined by Jorn Barger on December 17, 1997. The short form, ’blog’ was coined by Peter Merholz, who humourously broke the word webloe into ’weblog’.

We can define blog as an online diary usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events or other material such as graphics or video. We can differentiate blogs in many categories such as personal blogs, corporate blogs, question blogging, etc. Many blogs provide news on a particular subject. These blogs are playing the appropriate role of alternative media. A typical blog combines text, images and links to other blogs. Blog writing is beneficial for us in many ways. Research shows that it improves sleep and memory, boosts immune cell activity and reduces vital load in AIDS patients and even speeds healing after surgery.

Blogging rapidly gained popularity. The use of blog spread during 1999. Now people also have started to use blogs so that they can reduce the communication gaps between them and their favourite superstars and their role models. Now, media attention has focused on blogging because it can be seen as a new form of journalism.

So the basic point I have understood about blogging is that blogging is by the people and for the people.
