A tale of the triumph of perseverance
Hats of to Raghvendra Pratap Singh, for his perseverance even when there was no body to help him. He is now a Probationary Officer posted in Aligarh district.
HE IS just an ordinary Indian from a mediocre family but his confidence and talent is second to none in this world, he has faced all life's odds heroically and proved his mettle with flying colors. Raghvendra Pratap Singh, known commonly as Raghu, was born to an ordinary Army family. The youngest of four siblings, he went on to do his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Agra and his MSc in Physics from Dr BR Ambedkar University, in Uttar Pradesh. He became the first MSc not only in his family but also in his village. Raghu is basically from a far-flung village of Mainpuri District of UP-Surajpur, which has no electricity.

A meritorious student, Raghvendra also took active part in sports and cultural activities during his academic days and went on to represent his School in football and athletics in various sports events. He also received certificates in quiz competitions and debates during his school and college days. An ambitious child, Raghu nurtured a dream to become a pilot in the Indian Air Force and serve this beautiful land of Vivekananda and Mother Teresa. Keeping his childhood dream in mind, he joined the NCC Air Wing senior division during his graduation and went on to impress his fellow cadets and other seniors by his gentle personality and he was later on awarded the NCC-C certificate. During his association with the NCC, he also won other awards and certificates in the area of debate and sports.

He chased his dream to the hilt and went on to the clear written exams of the CDS, but unfortunately, he did not clear the interview. Raghu who has read much literature on positivity and personality development, didn’t lose hope and went on to face SSB five more times but every time he failed to make the cut. At times, it happens when you face one problem, there is another problem bigger than the previous, waiting for you. This is what happened with Raghvendra. His father who had retired when he was in school wasn’t doing well economically, and his two elder brothers too were not very successful. He started giving tuitions to earn money for his education and entrance exams.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going - even after facing so much disappointment, he kept his cool and began fresh preparation for the banking examinations. This time, lady luck was on his side; he passed three banking exams in the year 2009 - that for SBI Bank Clerk, IDBI Trainee Officer and State Bank of Patiala Probationary Officer and cleared all the three interviews. At present, he is working with State Bank of Patiala as Probationary Officer and posted in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. Let’s hope he will serve this country like a true Indian and not become part of a corrupt syndicate of bureaucrats and politicians. Hats of to you Raghu, for your perseverance to make it big in life.
