A tribute to Nirbhaya

Nirbhaya, as the media called the brave heart, succumbed to the inert legal and inefficient police system of the country, and has stirred the souls of citizens, which were in deep slumber.

CERTAINLY, THE price that she paid was too high to awaken us all but it is also high time to introspect and not to confine what happened to her to a debate about only rape cases. There myriad other issues our government is evading. These steps, if taken, can help us avoid such horrible and inhumane crimes in the future.

How will her and our voice will be heard? The answer is in solidarity and incessant protest across the country for a swift and sensible alteration in the existing dead legal system. Women should protest by not going to various government offices they are holding until perceptible changes are taken to beef up the security.

This time, the government can't escape by just lip service as always happens. Government pushed the issue of reservation in promotion Bill but failed to look into social issues of the right to live as infringed by the slack security measures. In India governance is not self-propelling - we need to ensure to keep it in a functioning state; once it is not ensured it bounds to fail or weaken with time.

So the paramount responsibility falls on the shoulders of the both the media and citizens to check and maintain the swiftness and effectiveness by questioning it to avoid any untoward incident occurring in the near future. We should resolve that we will not forget our responsibility to ensure the system is in place and working for its implementation - else all the effort and momentum will be nullified with the passage of time. Any system can only work efficiently if the weeds are removed in time by awakened citizens - who take responsibility without pointing finger towards others.
