IT IS hard to believe that a simple looking girl could be a bundle of such amazing talent. A first time film-maker she wowed everybody with her short film ‘
Good Night’ at IFFI. It was natural, then, that the film was adjudged the second best short from 200 shorts world-wide and Geetika won the Silver-Tree award.
Describing her journey as a filmmaker, Geetika says that she never thought that she would be a film-maker, as there is no one in her near family in the show-business. Her father is an engineer; while her mother is a teacher; very soon she found herself pursuing a course in English literature at Hindu College; yet, she found her calling in this world of moving images.
An active participant in the college drama society and a self-confessed dance enthusiast; very soon, destiny took its course as she found herself working with a Delhi-based production house.
Her work exposed her to the various jobs that go into film-making; as also her co-producer and cinematographer -- Yasir Abbasi.
After about six months of brainstorming the idea of ‘
Good Night’ was born.
‘
Good Night’ tells the story of an aged man, Mr Khurana (Vinod Nagpal) – an old Hindi-film music aficionado! He can’t find the complete lyrics of a song he is humming and his struggle to find the complete lyrics. The narrative beautifully gives an insight into the past and the present life of the protagonist.
Geetika agrees that the film has shades of her life; as she herself is a music enthusiast and many a times as she hums a song and can’t get the full lyrics – she undergoes a struggle to get it!
She is sure that she wants to make a full-fledged feature – “However, I want destiny to take its own course,” says Geetika with a coy and charming smile.
