A young man sacrifices tongue to appease Goddess Amba
A devotee under the blind faith slit his tongue and offered it to Goddess Amba to appease her. This bizarre incident happened in Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad. When offered to be taken to the hospital, he refused and chose to stay in the temple.
NINE DAY celebration of joyous Navratri were to brought an end with a bizarre incident when a devotee in Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad sacrificed his tongue to appease Goddess Amba.

It was a holiday and the last day of the Navratri, a nine day celebration, so the rush of devotees at the temple was low at dawn. Those who reached for the morning prayers found a person oozing blood from his mouth. When they enquired, unable to speak he pointed to the deity’s feet where they saw his tongue lying. He was offered to be taken to the hospital but he refused and chose to stay in the temple.

The devotees whipped the floor and gave a pair of fresh clothes to him. In the meantime, the rumour spread in the area that the goddess is pleased over the sacrifice. The flocks of people started pouring in to see him. Some even garlanded him and gathered around to get the blessings by bowing and putting the “teeka” on the forehead of the pious devotee. A few over excited took out a small procession in his honour.

In the process, everybody forgot about his tongue which was still lying in the temple. The delay shutdown the chances of corrective surgery. It will be only a miracle if he gets the tounge back in his mouth. The police also rushed to the spot later but was helpless as no one was ready to file complaint.

Vaghel’s uncle and nephew giving the information said that this can be new here in Ahmedabad, but is common in their native. This was a symbol of faith in the powers of the goddess. Ramvir Vaghel’s father Fatoghi Vaghel is a sadhu and is worhiping the goddess for last 20 years.

Ramvir also was observing fast, both in Navratri and Chetri Navratri of April. This Navratri, he was being guided by a sadhu who gave a mantra to chant mantra continuously. It is said that he had seen Goddess Ambe in dream and asked for the sacrifice. He had trust that after the Goddess was pleased by evening the tounge would grow back at its place by her blessings.
