It has given a run to Apple fans as 10 lakh iPad units were sold in 28 days compared to Aakash’s 14 lakh in two weeks. A whopping 10 lakh orders have been placed since last month and the UK-based manufacturers, Datawind are planning three more factories in Noida, Cochin and Hyderabad to cater to the rising demands.
Nowhere has it been seen across the West that people will remain in queues for days to get Apple’s iPad but for Aakash, these things are routine in a country where people buy low-priced gadgets, whether or not they will be worth. Though the android tablet is seen as an innovation but there have been many questions raised on its processing speed and more importantly, it works only on Wi-fi connection. But the newer version will work through a sim card as well. Such is the craze that orders for January and February are already sold out and if you are interested in the upgraded version, you shall have to wait till March.
After its launch in October last year, Aakash made headlines for its entire assemblage in India and world’s cheapest tablet.
