Aamir Khan to play Feluda in Shoojit Sircar's Sonar Kella?
Every Bengali's favourite sleuth while growing up has been and still is Feluda or Prodosh Mitra. For people, who are hearing about the man for the first time - he was created by Satyajit Ray and is no lesser than Sherlock Holmes in solving crimes. Shoojit Sircar, director of Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe feels the same way and wants to recreate the Bengali movie 'Sonar Kella' in Hindi.
For playing the part of the charming, Bengali detective, Sircar has Aamir Khan
in mind. Acting aside, Khan would not perfectly fit the bill as Feluda has always been tall, apart from being intelligent and charming. This minor detail is not weighing in the mind of the director, who is quite excited to remake the film.
Although the protagonist was easy to find, Shoojit Sircar is really concerned about finding Jatayu, who is the author in the film recounting the adventure of the detective. Jatayu is known for his perfect comic timing and to find a person like that is a difficult job.
As reported by timesofindia, Shoojit Sircar currently is trying to procure the rights of the film, and talking about the project he says, “Things will hopefully fall into place very soon. Sonar Kella is a cult film in Bengali and I want the story to reach out to a wider audience. I have grown up watching Ray classics, but I didn't want to touch his more serious films, which are difficult to adapt on screen.”
Shoojit Sircar, who is known for sensible cinema not only wants to make a Ray film for the sake of it but wants the entire nation to get a taste of Ray's classics. Ray's other films, dealing with social issues cannot be recreated but Sircar feels that this light hearted mystery thriller is the best film to be remade and presented before a larger audience.
