AAP nominates 3 candidates for the RS elections - a businessman, leading CA and close aide of party chief
Soon after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections to three seats from Delhi, it was clearly evident that all is not well in the party as AAP leader Kumar Vishwas who holds a key post in the party, expressed his displeasure over the nominations.

The decision was made at a meeting conducted by the party's Political Affairs Committe (PAC), that has named Sanjay Singh, ND Gupta and Sushil Gupta as its candidates for the Upper House of the Parliament.

As AAP announced its nominees, Kumar Vishwas, who was expecting his name in the Rajya Sabha nominations, went public with his battle against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal soon after the party officially announced its decision. Taking a dig at party chief Kejriwal, he said that he (Vishwas) had been "punished for speaking the truth".

Elections to three Delhi Rajya Sabha seats will take place on January 16, 2017. However, it can be said that the AAP is all set to win all three seats as the party enjoys an overwhelming majority with 67 seats in the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly.

Here's a background check on the newly nominated candidates who have been selected for the Rajya Sabha elections:

Sushil Gupta is a Delhi-based businessman whose net worth is over Rs 164 crore, as reported by Firstpost. The billionaire businessman who works in education & health sectors is a social activist as well. In 2013, he fought the Assembly elections on Congress' ticket from Delhi's Moti Nagar seat but lost in the race. After his resignation from the party, he joined the AAP nearly a month ago, as per a media report.
