AAP resolves to save mangroves in Mumbai
We are all silent witnesses to destruction of mangroves, cutting forests, populating hill slopes and rampant land grab by politician-Babu-police -builder nexus across the city. Because of the mushrooming growth all around, every inch of available land has been occupied more for the human greed than the need.

Mangrove cover has been destroyed by more than 30% in last 25 years; such destruction has resulted in natural calamities, flash floods, landslides, flooding during high tides apart from major climatic changes due to ecological imbalance. There is a systematic effort by greedy politicians, builders to grab land by mining on hills (Navi Mumbai’s 50% Hill has been chopped/ destroyed) and commercially exploit it for personal gains.

There is one live example in sector-15 Belapur, which has chronologically been recorded by a resident Dr. Janki Ram. He made appeals to the Hon’ble chief justice of India, Minister for environment apart from local authorities like Chairman/MD of CIDCO, NMMC and Police commissioner but to no avail.

There is a consistent effort by parties having vested interests and they are reclaiming the land by destroying/ cutting the mangroves; such land is already flattened and next move will be to start construction on such land.

All authorities like CIDCO MD, NMMC chairman, Police commissioner, forest officials who are just few hundred meters away from this disaster are silent and have their eyes shut.

AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) will not sleep over it and through this letter, I appeal to all authorities to take cognizance of this blatant attempt of land grab and initiate appropriate action to stop it. Also ensure that mangroves are replanted and existing ones are saved.

AAP shall agitate to ‘Save our Mangroves’ and will not allow its destruction anymore, if authorities still ignore it, necessary FIRs will be filed in the nearest police stations against this criminal action. It is in violation of CRZ (Coastal Regulated Zone) of Govt. of India and also Maharashtra Government’s Policy which does not permit any civil construction within 500 meters distance from sea shore.
