BENGALI FILM 'Aarohan” has been picked for screening in the prestigious Montreal International Film Festival. The festival is currently underway in Montreal; it began on August 26 and will last till September 6, 2010.
The movie is slated for screening in the “Focus on World Cinema” section that showcases movies from America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Aarohan that means Ascension stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Sandhya Ray and Rituparna Sengupta.
The movie is knitted around an old man and his wife who descended in the holy city Banaras to seek salvation (moksha). The story touches various facets of life’s journey fraught with happiness and sorrow and tries to bring onscreen a lively sentimental drama. The emotional drama is directed by Pinaki Chaudhury, when quizzed how the plot of the movie came to her mind, the director said the idea of the story strike her when she read an article based on Mukti Bhavan in Banaras sometime back in newspaper. She said the elders are given shelter for one month in the Mukti Bhavan and during that time if they don’t die they have to vacate the place. Her movie is weaved around that experience, and upheavals.
