ABC of keeping your heart 'hale and hearty'
According to health experts, heart disease kills more people than other diseases in urban habitats in the world that it has become a life-style disease.
In the present day life of seeking comforts and conveniences a very casual attitude towards life has been developed. "Some people aren't too concerned about heart disease because they think it can be 'cured' with surgery. This is a myth. Heart disease is a lifelong condition: Once you get it, you'll always have it," suggests a report of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The report adds that it's true that procedures such as angioplasty and bypass surgery can help blood and oxygen flow more easily to the heart. But the arteries remain damaged, which means you are still more likely to have a heart attack. So, one needs to keep heart healthy with a healthy life styles and taking actions to mitigate to reduce the risk factors for heart disease.

As Richard N. Fogoros, M.D. of Heart Health Center has rightly said, "We have learned a tremendous amount in recent years about the risk factors that predispose us to heart disease. One of the important things we have learned is that each of us has significant control over most of these risk factors. And therefore, to a large extent, each of us hold our cardiac fate in our own hands. Even people who have a strong genetic predisposition to heart disease can often significantly delay the onset of heart problems by adopting healthy lifestyles."

Keeping the foregoing in view, here is my A-B-C verse on a healthy heart.

A: Avoid hypertension, stress and fats by changing your lifestyle and food habits

B: Blood pressure be kept between 120/80 and 139/89 mm Hg

C: Cholesterol be maintained below 5 milli moles per litre

D: Diagnose and cure yourself for the disease of obesity by keeping the hip to waist ratio between 0.9 and 0.8 through exercises

E: Everyday calories needs be limited to 2550 calories spilt over three meals (400-700 calories each) and two snacks (100-200 calories each)
