'Argo' beats 'Lincoln' in Oscar 2013

Despite being snubbed in the Best Director category, the British actor Ben Affleck collected the trophy for the best picture in this year's Annual Academy Awards. His mumbling, bumbling thank you's touched everyone's heart as he said that he had no idea what he was doing while directing the film based on an Iranian hostage drama. Although many wanted Argo to take the Best Director award, everyone thought that the giant of Hollywood

The best actor award that was bagged by Daniel Lewis for his Lincoln act was no surprise at all and his acceptance speech was the most humorous act of the evening. The same cannot be said for the first time and very young Oscar winner for the best actress, Jennifer Lawrence, for her power packed performance in Silver Linings Playbook. If she thought that her wardrobe malfunction at the Screen Actors Guild Awards this year was a think of the past then she needs to think again (and really needs a shorter dress or flatter shoes) She looked lovely and quickly overcame her embarrassment to take the award from Meryl Streep. Ang Lee, on the other hand, cut a very dashing figure as he came to accept the award for the Best Director, and he thanked everyone for pulling off such a spectacular film 'Life of Pi'.

Life of Pi got three other Oscar nods for the best Cinematographer and Visual effects and Best Original Score. Although Lincoln was leading the nominations race with 12 awards but in the end Life of Pi won the race by actually winning more awards than Lincoln. Django Unchained's writer Quentin Tarantino won the best award original screenplay and the Argo took home the best adapted screenplay.

Not surprisingly Adele won the best original score for her Skyfall song, which she also performed on stage. Some other soulful performance by Barbara Steinsand and Norah Jones were also the highlights of the evening. Although Seth MacFarlane's not so subtle humour as the host of the evening was not that easy to digest for many (read Charlize Theron and Noami Watts) and it started to trend on Twitter, yet the evening was nothing less than spectacular.

The acceptance speeches, which used to be the highlights of Oscars were somehow very mechanical, mundane and just not Oscarish. Although, this statement is debatable but apart from Daniel Lewis's and Ben Affleck's speech, everybody else pretty much came on stage and thanked everyone they worked with, which is the essence of a speech but not really unforgettable.

Fashion, however did not disappoint the fashionistas as all the leading ladies were seen spotting pale colours, which seemed the theme of the evening. White, pale blue, pink were the heroes of the evening. The best gown is a little difficult to pick as all had their own finish and style. The men also looked dapper in their bowties and sharp suits but one person who truly stood out was George Clooney, who looked like a lot like Tom Hank's character in Cast Away. But who is complaining, beard or not, he always manages to pull anything off with his devilish smile.
