Abolishing Vidhan Parishads is the need of the hour
There is no need for legislative councils in our electoral system as they are just used to rehabilitate candidates who taste defeat at the hands of electorate in general elections - giving them an opportunity to spend their lives at public expense.
‘WHITE-ELEPHANT’ bodies of legislative system in form of ‘Vidhan Parishads’ (Legislative Councils) were rightly abolished in many states after post-emergency scenario of the year 1977.
Ruling parties in states often manipulate winning of its candidates in elections to Vidhan Parishads by mis-use of power. Constitutional provision of having Vidhan Parishads in states should be altogether abolished.
