Absence of on-duty MCG officers delays developmental work in Gurgaon
Unhappy over the slow pace of developmental work in his ward, Mangat Ram Bagadi, councilor of ward number 10, has written an open letter to Haryana's financial commissioner and principal secretary of Urban Local Bodies P. Raghvendra Rao, who visited Gurgaon and met newly appointed commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon recently.

In his letter, Bagadi has expressed his disappointment with the way officials of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) deal with the developmental works taking place in the city. They are never present on the spot to supervise the work, which leads to delay and drop in quality, Bagadi has highlighted.

He wrote: “Due to the efforts of local councillors after MCG elections, the developmental work on all roads in all wards has been started, but all officers responsible for these development works are not working in a planned manner due to which we are facing many problems.”

He also mentioned that in Laxman Vihar, work on a water pipeline is going on for last three years. At some places, he said, the water pipes started leaking just weeks after MCG officials declared that the work had been completed and gave a green signal for starting the water supply.

“At many places, no proper joints have been installed, while at some places no water pipes have been laid. Developmental work has been put on hold at many places. As a result, people are not getting enough water in their homes,” Bagadi told this citizen journalist .

In the letter, Bagadi wrote that road construction work was started in Laxman Vihar, but no supervisor or any officer from MCG can be seen on the spot and contractors making the road are breaking water pipes at their will. “If the work continues in this way then all water pipes will break down one day and then to repair them we again have to break all roads and then huge amount of government revenue will be wasted. These developmental works which are meant for the welfare of the public are instead creating problems for them,” he said.

He also stated in the letter that this problem is not limited to his ward, but in almost all the wards work is been happening without any supervision and in the absence of any MCG officials.

Bagadi didn’t blame the MCG officials only but said that a joint engineer has been given the responsibility of manning 10-16 wards, which, according to him, is impossible for one person to handle. “Work is going on in every ward, so how can a joint engineer cover all wards simultaneously?” asked Bagadi.

Through his letter, Bagadi has suggested that a junior engineer should be appointed for each ward. He can take care of each kind of work including road, water and power, and work in a planned way, the letter stated. “This will help in completing these works in efficient manner and in time and people can utilise the services,” he said.
