ACC player of the year is Greivis Vasquez, Coach Williams also honored
Senior Guard Greivis Vasquez became the ACC player of the year. Maryland Coach Gary Williams was honoured as ACC coach of the year and Georgia Tech forward Derrick Favors became the ACC Freshman of the year.
MARYLAND'S TOP player Senior guard Greivis Vasquez were among the top three honoured by ACC on Tuesday. Greivis Vasquez became the ACC player of the year, beating other potentials for the top spot like Duke's Jon Scheyer and Virginia Tech's Malcolm Delaney for the honour.
Vasquez has become the only ACC player to record a minimum 2,000 career points, apart from 700 career assists and 600 career rebounds. He averages 19.6 points, 6.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds in a game. The fifth Maryland player ever to be honoured with the ACC player of the year title, Greivis Vaquez received 39 out of 53 votes for the title.
On recieving the honour, he said, "This means so much to me. After four years of working so hard, to be the ACC Player of the Year is unbelievable. I don't have enough words to express how happy I am for my teammates, my coaches and my whole country. People in Venezuela have been so supportive and making me a better player and a better person."
Meanwhile, Maryland Coach Gary Williams was honoured as ACC coach of the year. The third honour, went to Georgia Tech forward Derrick Favors who became the ACC Freshman of the year.
