Ace storyteller Imtiaz Ali recreates the magic once again with his magical love story 'Tamasha'
Always with a new flavour and highly different story-line, no one can present love stories in a way Imtiaz Ali does. Hence, the expectations are naturally high from his latest release 'Tamasha' that has hit theaters today. But the question is, will this Ranbir-Deepika starrer film deliver the promises or will it be just another Tamasha that the audience would like to give a miss to? Let's find out!

Cast: Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Javed Sheikh, Faraaz Servaia, Nikhil, Bhagat, Kshitij Sharma, Punam Singh

Director: Imtiaz Ali

Genre: Drama/Romance

Duration: 2 hours and 24 minutes

IMDb Rating: 6.9

The trailer, videos and songs of the film reminded us of many of Imtiaz's past works . But, one has to say, Tamasha is different. The film is about Ved (Ranbir) and Tara (Deepika), who meet far away on the exotic island of Corsica and the story begins.

Rambir Deepika

The beginning is quite decent. Ved in his childhood is shown growing up among stories. He lives in his own world of imagination, filled with tales of Ramayana, Helen of Troy, Laila Majnu, Heer Ranjha, Aladdin, Romeo Juliet, Prithvi Raj Chauhan, etc. But, he feels all stories are the same and thus wants his own story to be different.

Ranbir Deepika

Comes Corsica! Tara appears in trouble as she has lost her passport. She needs to make a call and takes the help of Ved. When the talk starts between the two, instead of introducing themselves as one normally would do, they decide to hide their real identities and pretend to be Teja and Mona Darling, in a bid to make a different story. They also decide that after returning from the island, they would never meet each other again.

The story runs smooth after that. The duo have fun together, go sightseeing and spend quality time with each other throughout their Corsica trip. Tara gets her passport back. She gives Ved a passionate kiss and then Tara leaves for India. The journey through dreamland ends here with the beginning of their real story.

After a year passes, the two meet once again in India and it is a point where their real identities get revealed. While Ved turns out to be a product manager with an ordinary life, Tara is still deeply in love with Teja aka Ved. When they see each other, she confesses her love to him and they renew their relationship. They hangout, make love, go for dates and movies, but Tara is finding something amiss in their love story.

Another twist in the tale comes when things start to get boring for Tara, who then realises that she was in love with Teja, and not the product manager Ved. Without suppressing her feelings, Tara clearly tells Ved that she isn't in love with his mundane life as a product manager, instead she is looking for Teja, in him. Their relationship comes to an end as Tara isn't sure about the person she is with as she is always looking for the fake named person she met in Corsica in Ved. So she rejects him.

Ranbir Deepika

Ex-lovers and popular on-screen pair Ranbir and Deepika look quite convincing in their roles. Master in presenting ill-lighted side of the romantic tales, Imitaz Ali's direction is pretty impressive. Ex-flames Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor look super stunning together in the film and the exotic locations will indeed sooth your eyes.

However, the second half is more focused on the intensity of the film. The cast has given powerful performances that make the film a good watch. The flow of the story runs on the emotional ambiguity of the lead pair. When Tara rethinks, she realises that it was Ved who had rejected her. Ved changes himself after the breakup, but not because he was rejected by Tara, but to rediscover himself. He ultimately finds a new life that lets him entertain others just like he was entertained by the storyteller as a kid in Shimla.

The couple again meet after Ved has become a famed director of stage extravaganzas.

'Tamasha' successfully presents how love takes shape under the fierce strikes of life and loneliness. The second half of the film is not just about pain and anguish, but also about victory and rejoicing equally. The storyteller Ali is most admired for creating magical characters, as he did in 'Rockstar', 'Jab We Met' and 'Highway', and now this trend seems to continue with 'Tamasha'.

Ranbir steals the show while Deepika is fine portraying the character of a pained lover. Music by AR Rahman is apt in presenting the situation in a clearer manner. Overall, 'Tamasha' is a must watch for people who have faith in love, magic and are fond of love stories.
