After a long battle with the AP government, bio-technology scientist Anuradha, who was brutally attacked with acid 13 years ago, has won the case in Supreme Court and got compensation that was earlier refused to her.
BIO-TECHNOLOGY scientist Anuradha of the AP Agriculture university who was afflicted with an acid attack 13 years ago, received compensation of Rs 71.45 lakhs by the order of the Supreme Court on Saturday (September 19), from the state government.
The state government, in turn told the Vice-Chancellor of the university to release the amount to Anuradha, so that she could undergo further plastic surgery and treatment at the hospitals of her choice.A fellow student, Srinivasa Reddy had thrown acid on Anuradha on September 13, 1996 when she was waiting for a bus at a city bus stop in the Hyderabad. In the ghastly attack, the girl lost her left eye and left her body partially burnt. Even after going through a year of treatments in hospitals and several plastic surgeries, her skin has still not become normal.
The state High court has ordered the then Andhra Pradesh government to pay Anuradha a compensation of Rs five lakhs besides providing her suitable employment. However, the Chandrababu Naidu government did not implement the court order. Instead, they appealed against it in the Supreme Court.YS Rajasekhara Reddy, had met with the girl a couple of days before his death, when she had paid him a courtesy visit and had promised her that he would expedite the matter and get her the much deserved compensation. On Saturday, after winning the case, she told media-persons that Reddy had given her a second life, by giving orders to finish the case in the earliest.
